When John Glenn was preparing to orbit the Earth in 1962, he refused to fly until Katherine Johnson personally verified the computer's calculations. She did. The mission launched. NASA called women like Johnson "human computers," brought them in to do the work, and spent decades not putting their names on it. This tee is part of the Watercolors series from our Historical Women collection: a watercolor portrait against a cosmic backdrop on the front, her most consequential contributions to NASA's space program on the back, because the record needed correcting.
Designed for the STEM educator whose classroom wall should include this face, the Hidden Figures fan who wants the tribute to extend past the credits, and the mathematician who knows exactly whose shoulders the field is standing on. Perfect for Women's History Month, Black History Month, STEM events, and science classrooms, or any day the math needs to be set straight.
